In 2007, the B.C.C.F. presented Maureen with The Joyce O. Maguire Award for outstanding long term service as an accompanist.
Also that year, she was honored to receive The Alice Box Memorial Award for her dedication to the arts and children.
Maureen Nielsen teaches piano and theory at Classic Touch Piano Studio and is an active accompanist in Prince George. As an accompanist, she works with several local choirs which currently include: Junior and Senior PRINCE GEORGE Tapestry Singers, Prince George Cantata Singers, and Nove Voce.
Maureen also plays for solo and ensembles of vocalists and instrumentalists in the local music festival as well as in numerous recitals and concerts throughout the year. In addition, she can be found filling in at the keyboard with the Prince George Symphony Orchestra.
While studying with Edward Parker, Maureen received A.R.C.T. and L.T.C.L. Diplomas and then continued on to a Bachelor of Music at the University of Victoria.
Other experiences include playing piano for several musical theatre productions: Guys and Dolls, Fiddler on the Roof, and My Fair Lady.
Maureen enjoys working with students and performers of all ages and has been fortunate to travel to Europe, the United States, and across Canada with various choral groups to attend music festivals.
